iPhone Vibrator App from MyPleasure.com

my-pleasure-iphone-vibrator-sex-app

If you haven’t already checked out MyPleasure.com’s MyVibe app in the iPhone’s app store, you might want to. Unlike many saucy apps out there, MyVibe is free - and fun.

Here’s how it works: there’s an on/off button that looks like many computer on/offs so it’s easily recognizable. On the right side, there are up and down arrows to control your vibration - short, quick pulses (smaller #s) or longer, slower ones (higher #s, up to 100). [If your phone isn't vibrating at first, make sure your volume switch on the left of the iPhone is turned to vibrate.]

The intensity of the vibration MyPleasure could use for this app is obviously limited by the amount of vibration that the iPhone offers, so the orgasmic potential of the MyVibe app is similarly limited. However, orgasms - while fun - aren’t everything. Anticipation, teasing and seduction play a major role in many people’s sex lives (check out my fun new book, Because It Feels Good, for more tips on foreplay and enhancing desire/interest).

As such, why not turn on the app, hold the iPhone discreetly against your body while on the metro, in a cab or even at your desk as you exchange sultry IMs or Twitter DMs with your real life partner or dream partner? Having a little vibration can add excitement and tingles to your day (and your genitals).

Given that I dream of a world full of smart, interesting and sexy iPhone apps (but don’t personally have the tech skills to create one), I asked my friend and colleague, Dr. Sandor Gardos (MyPleasure.com’s founder), to comment on his new app. Here’s what he had to say.

DH: Did you have customers requesting this type of application? How did you come up with the idea?

SG: We always have customers asking us for more “discreet” vibrators, especially things that look like something else so that they can use it via travel, not worry about their kids finding them, etc. In fact, we have an entire department filled with things like vibrators that look like lipstick, nail polish, and even a USB drive. Given the ubiquity of the
iPhone, it seemed like a natural choice.

DH: Did Apple approve it on the first submission? If not, what types of modifications did you have to make to the app?

SG: No, Apple initially rejected the app. Oddly, upon resubmission, it was accepted, mostly unchanged. I think the real issue was that they didn’t like developers using the vibration function the way we did, not the sexual nature — after all, this is just a tension reliever, right? :)

DH: What types of updates to the app are you considering (e.g., allowing people to vibrate others, increased vibration in other models, saving different vibration types such as more than one vibrations, etc)? What about uploading your personal vibration preferences for others to see, use or share? (as with that flute app that everyone was using)?

SG: Sadly, we are very limited in what we can do with the existing hardware. In particular, the vibration is not as strong as some would probably like. Our emphasis has been on creating different pulsation patterns and that is where the next version is going — but more “orchestrated” experiences. And, I agree that saving your personal preferences will be important.

DH: How are you planning on marketing the app?

SG: Well, we are going to keep it as a free download so I imagine most of our marketing will be viral or through our site (MyPleasure.com).

DH: What are your thoughts on Apple’s need to create an adult section in the app store?

SG: I actually really applaud them for doing that. Apple should not play the role of censor or only allowing apps that work to the lowest common denominator. By letting parents choose what they allow their children to download, it opens up the possibility of more mature apps coming to market.

DH: Are you planning on releasing a vibration app for other smart phones? If so, what will the similarities or differences be?

SG: No, we are sticking to the iPhone. Instead of porting it to other platforms what we are going to be focusing on is releasing a series of apps that are to help people really transform their lives through sex. Games for couples, educational apps, as well as solution-focused titles that will help you with particular issues you might have.

DH: How many apps have been dowloaded so far?

SG: It’s been out for less than a week but it has already been downloaded by thousands of people.

DH: Including me! Anything else you’d like to add?

SG: MyPleasure actually had the idea for creating a vibrator controlled by an iPod years ago (not just synchronized to music), but the technological hurdles were pretty substantial. With the new iPhone OS 3.0, it should be relatively easy. I am sure you will be seeing many folks releasing such devices. The trick will be to make one that truly takes advantage of the platform and isn’t just a gimmick.
